Flyover on Chord Road as part of signal-free corridor

As part of the signal-free corridor project on the eight-kilometre-long West of Chord Road, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is planning to build one more flyover to connect Rajajinagar Industrial Town.

While the civic body already inaugurated the Manjunath Nagar flyover, it has begun construction of Shivanagara and Basaveshwaranagar junction grade separators.

The signal-free Chord Road project was taken up by the civic body at a cost of Rs 112 crore to decongest these junctions and connect Tumakuru Road with Mysuru Road.

Speaking to DH, BBMP’s chief engineer for road infrastructure projects K T Nagaraj said, “We have proposed to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for constructing a grade separator at the 72nd cross on the West of Chord Road. This will be the fourth flyover on the stretch starting from Sandal Soap factory to Mysuru Road.”

“The flyover at Manjunath Nagar Main Road was inaugurated in August 2018….Basaveshwara Nagar First Main Road and Shivanagar flyover are under construction. Once the four flyovers with underpass are completed, the stretch of 8 km will be signal-free,” he added.

While the Basaveshwaranagar junction flyover is 388 metres long, the one at Manjunath Nagar main road is 232 meters long and the integrated flyover along Shivanagar road intersections would be 500 meters long.

Chord Road already has three grade separators: Navarang underpass, Rajajinagar 1st Block flyover and another at Mahalakshmi Layout junction.

Commissioned in 2016, the project has been taken up under the Nagarothana scheme jointly by the state government and the BBMP.

The civic body has plans to complete the project by October 2019. Once the DPR is ready, the Palike will call for tenders to build the flyover at the 72nd Cross.
