Leaders come together for Nikhil’s film premiere

Friends, not foe

Notwithstanding the political uncertainty looming large over Karnataka, political leaders cutting across party lines came together on a single platform for the second time this week.

On January 21 and 22, leaders from the BJP, the Congress and the JD(S), buried their differences and had together offered respects to the Siddaganga seer, Shivakumara Swami, who passed away.

Once again on Thursday, the leaders were seen hobnobbing during the premiere of the film, Seetharama Kalyana, featuring Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s son, Nikhil Kumar. The film -- Nikhil’s second -- will be released worldwide on Friday.

Kumaraswamy, who had recently invited all of his party legislators for the launch of the film’s trailer in Mysuru, chose to extend an invitation to all 224 MLAs, 75 MLCs and 28 MPs for the film’s premiere -- hosted by him at the Orion Mall in the city on Thursday evening.

While almost all of the JD(S) leaders made a beeline to the event, several of the Congress leaders, including the coordination committee chairman Siddaramaiah too indulged Kumaraswamy and his son.

Cabinet ministers like Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara, R V Deshpande, Zameer Ahmed Khan, K J George, M T B Nagaraj and P T Parameshwar Naik were among those present at the event. BJP state president and leader of the opposition in the Assembly, B S Yeddyurappa, however, didn’t make it to the event. A handful of BJP leaders, including the Shivamogga MLA, K S Eshwarappa, made an appearance and congratulated Nikhil.

After the premiere, Kumaraswamy hosted dinner.
