The police arrested seven workers of a restaurant for reportedly assaulting a constable after he asked them to close the restaurant as it was operating beyond deadline on Sunday.

Sadashiva, the constable attached to Yelahanka New Town police station, heard customers' noise at the Kitchen 6 Family Restaurant. Upon verification, he found that the restaurant was still open.

He directed the management to close down as there was no permission for hotel operations beyond 1 am. The workers refused to follow the instructions and began an argument. They assaulted him when the constable was about down the shutter of the eating facility.

The Hoysala patrol vehicle reached the spot and arrested the seven workers who assaulted Sadashiva, added the police.

Local residents claimed that the restaurant operated till 1 am as the management had the backing of the police.

Pleas to the police against the violation had fallen on deaf ears. It was only when the constable was attacked that they took action, the residents charged.
