Schools, PU colleges revert to online classes as Covid-19 cases rise in Bengaluru

Private schools insist that they are not forcing children to attend online classes

Following the second wave of Covid-19, several schools and PU colleges have switched back to online classes.

Managements of these institutions have already sent messages to parents and students regarding the change since March 22. Barring students of classes 10 and 12, who will be preparing for the board exams, other classes have gone back online.

Though some schools say they will conduct online classes until the end of March, others have decided to continue with the virtual mode for the entire academic year.

The message sent out by a prominent South Bengaluru school read: “As the Covid-19 cases are increasing in Bengaluru, the management has decided to conduct online classes from March 22 onwards for two weeks.

“Parents make sure that your ward actively participates in the online classes. Since the situation is becoming worse, we advise you to remind the children to comply with the rule of social-distancing and take necessary precautions to keep them safe and healthy,” the school said.

A handful of schools have even taken offline assessments and exams online, while in some cases schools have received requests from parents to hold online classes.

Mansoor Ali Khan, board member, Delhi Public School, said the management would be reviewing the situation based on the number of cases.

“For classes 9 and above, we’re providing both online and offline classes,” he said. “Students and parents are free to choose. For the rest of the grades, it’s only going to be online (classes).”

Private schools insist that they are not forcing children to attend online classes and they can actually choose between online and offline modes.
