Spurned man assaults colleague, arrested

A man who stripped and assaulted one of his women colleagues on a busy road for rejecting his marriage proposal, was arrested.

Based on the woman’s complaint, the Chandra Layout police have arrested Arun, an employee of a private firm.

He was booked under the IPC sections of 504–intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace; 354–assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty, and 506–criminal intimidation.

According to the victim’s complaint, Arun used to post derogatory messages and videos on a WhatsApp group of the employees, of which, most were women.

She said that Arun had sent her several obscene pictures and videos, to which she objected and warned him against sending them. Though he stopped sending them, he began stalking the women employees of the company on his bike. He would make obscene gestures at them in public.

According to the police, on Saturday around 6 pm, at the end of her day, the complainant left her office and was walking towards a bus stop. Out of nowhere, Arun approached her on his bike and asked her to marry him.

Annoyed, the woman yelled at him. For which, Arun began abusing the victim and her friends.

In the melee, he grabbed her hand, and when she resisted, he tore off her shirt on the busy road. A few other employees rushed to the spot to her help and thrashed Arun before handing him over to police.
