The strike called by a section of transporters entered its second day on Tuesday. The movement of goods remained largely unaffected, though some lorries continued to stay off the roads.

An indefinite strike was called on Monday by the All India Confederation of Goods Vehicle Owners’ Associations, led by B Channa Reddy to protest against the rising diesel prices and cost of third-party insurance.

The first day of the strike did not have any impact on the transportation of goods. On the second day, there was no telling improvement in the response, as some lorry owners affiliated to another faction, led by G R Shanmugappa, decided to go on strike next month.

Several lorries were parked on the roadside in Tumakuru, Mysuru, Hosur and some places in north Karnataka.

Karnataka Petroleum Dealers Association president Ravindranath B R said they were not supporting the strike. “Supply of petrol and diesel will remain unaffected in Bengaluru and other cities,” he said.

Reddy, for his part, said there is no question of calling off the strike. “The Central government has not given us any assurance. We will hold a meeting on Wednesday evening and decide on the next course of action,” he said.
