The city police have taken up a case of rioting, wrongful restraint, assault and criminal intimidation against seven students for assaulting their classmate inside a classroom after working hours and outside the school premises on November 2.

The victim, a Class 9 student of a reputed school in central Benglauru, suffered multiple injuries during the attack and was admitted to KC General Hospital for treatment.

Following this, his father filed a complaint with the Ashok Nagar police on Monday.

Samson Halli, a private firm employee and a resident of Basaveshwaranagar, in his complaint, said his son picked a quarrel with one of his classmates after he was pinched on the ear inside the classroom when the teacher was not around.

When the victim objected to being pinched, a scuffle broke out and he pushed the other student to the floor. Both the students started punching each other. They were taken to the principal’s chamber and made to apologise to each other, and were asked to get back to class, Halli said.

At the end of the day, when the victim was heading home in an autorickshaw, the other student along with six of his classmates waylaid him on Convent Road.

They dragged him out of the auto, took him to a ground in Shanti Nagar and thrashed him. The gang then fled the scene. The victim managed to reach his house and was rushed to KC General Hospital.

Based on Halli’s complaint, the police have booked the students under various sections of the IPC. Since juveniles are involved, the police have referred the case to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), a police officer said.
