Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) services from the Sumanahalli bus depot were disrupted for a while following a protest by more than 100 BMTC employees.

The striking employees refused to operate buses after a woman conductor allegedly attempted to commit suicide over work-related harassment by her seniors at the depot.

The protest that began in the afternoon stopped the buses from being operated from the depot no. 31 to various destinations. An official said more than 80 bus services were disrupted.

Sources said the conductor has accused ill treatment by her managerial and supervisory staff. BMTC officials refused to divulge the woman’s identity or how she attempted suicide.

The woman is said to be out of danger. The management will take appropriate action, BMTC staff added.
