The state government will "reorganise" and "restructure" police stations in the Bengaluru city limits due to the increase in its geographical area and population, Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said Thursday.

A committee under Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Kamal Pant will submit a report on the reorganisation in the next 8-10 days, Bommai said.

Responding to a question by JD(S) MLC HM Ramesh Gowda in the Legislative Council, Bommai said that the delimitation exercise will help improve law & order and the traffic situation of the city.

"Population and traffic density of the city has increased over the last few years," he said, noting that 110 villages were added to BBMP limits recently. "The government is bound to implement people-friendly policing."

On whether there was a proposal to add a new Bengaluru South traffic police division, the minister said it will be reviewed by the committee. Currently, the Bengaluru Traffic Police has have three divisions - East, West and North.

"Several measures are being taken to improve traffic situation in the city. We have identified 12 high-density corridors where multi-level car parking, skywalks, road expansion and other works are being carried out to ease the flow of traffic," Bommai said.
