Truck carrying notes from RBI printing press turns turtle near Bidadi

Last Updated 25 February 2021, 20:44 IST

A container truck carrying currency notes from the RBI’s Mysuru printing press flipped and toppled near Bidadi, about 32 km west of Bengaluru, on Thursday.

The driver apparently lost balance while taking a turn at a curve section, where the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway widening work is going on, at Kempanahalli Gate around 3 pm.

The container was part of an 18-vehicle cavalcade that had left the Reserve Bank of India’s Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL), according to police. The vehicles were heading] to Bengaluru under CRPF security.

CRPF personnel cordoned off the area after the accident and called up the local police to clear the traffic. Bidadi police arranged a crane to lift the container truck. But it was too damaged to be towed away. It was pushed to the side of the highway.

An officer from the Bidadi police station said that the container toppled to the left, and the driver and a few CRPF personnel sustained minor injuries.

CRPF personnel later escorted the currency note boxes in another vehicle, a senior officer told DH.

“No complaint has been filed as of now. But if they do file a complaint, we will take up a case and investigate it,” the officer added.
