Two killed in separate accidents

Two men, including a pedestrian, were killed in separate accidents in Yeshwantpur and Jalahalli in North Bengaluru since Friday night.

A 23-year-old man riding as a co-passenger in a courier delivery van was killed on the spot when their vehicle collided with a lorry from behind near Goreguntepalaya signal in the wee hours of Saturday. The deceased identified as Kiran, was a resident of Nelamangala and a native of Tumakuru. The injured driver G Manucharan (22) was also a resident of Nelamangala, the police said.

According to the police, the accident happened around 4.45 am when the DTDC van was trying to overtake another vehicle when the driver lost control and collided with the lorry, killing Kiran on the spot. Police rushed to the spot and shifted the driver to a nearby hospital. Kiran’s body was extricated and abd shifted to a government hospital for postmortem. Yeshwantpur traffic police have registered a case and have booked Manucharan for rash and negligent driving.

In another accident, a 43-year-old pedestrian was killed after a speeding lorry knocked him down while he was crossing the road in Jalahalli on Friday night. The deceased has been identified as Venkatarathnam, a resident of Jalahalli who worked as a plumber, the police said.

According to the police, the accident happened around 9.45 pm whe he was crossing the road near MES on Ring Road when the lorry knocked him down. Passersby who informed the police rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he was declared brought dead. The driver of the lorry abandoned the vehicle and fled fearing public wrath. The Jalahalli police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the driver.
