Kavitha Bai

A domestic help who stole her employer’s gold jewellery a year ago and recently uploaded a photo of her wearing them as Whatsapp profile pic, landed in police net.

Police arrested Kavitha Bai and recovered 150 grams of gold jewellery and 2 kg silver which she had stolen on May 11, 2017, from the house of Sathyanarayana Rao, where she was employed.

Police said 65-year-old Rao was staying with his ailing wife in Srirampura when they hired Kavitha on a monthly salary of Rs 15,000.

Kavitha stole one of the three keys of the house. On May 10, Rao’s wife was admitted to hospital. Kavitha remained with them at the hospital, but later told them that she would go to her house and return. Instead, she went back to Rao’s house and stole the jewellery. She left the balcony open to give an impression that robbers entered through the balcony.

The incident came to light when Rao returned after two days. He filed a complaint, saying miscreants gained entry to the house through the balcony. After one and a half months, Rao’s wife died, and Kavitha left work. Rao never doubted Kavitha, but the police were keeping track of her movements. Recently, she uploaded a WhatsApp profile picture wearing the ornaments, which gave her away.
