Youth kills elder brother for thrashing mother

A 28-year-old mechanic was stabbed to death by his younger brother after he allegedly abused and assaulted their mother in Konanakunte near JP Nagar on Friday.

The victim has been identified as Vinay R, a resident of Chunchagatta in Konanakunte. His family said Vinay had a chronic drinking problem. 

The police have arrested his brother Sanjay R, who is employed in a BPO.

According to the police, a drunk Vinay came home late on Thursday night and picked up a quarrel with his mother and started thrashing her. Sanjay, who was at home, warned Vinay to stop beating their mother, but it was of no use. In fit of rage, Sanjay stabbed Vinay repeatedly.

Hearing the screams, the neighbours came over and found Vinay lying in a pool of blood.  Realising what he had done, Sanjay rushed his brother, with help from the neighbours, to hospital, but he was declared brought dead.

Sanjay told the police that he and his mother had warned Vinay on several occasions to quit drinking, but he never paid heed to their pleas. He used to come home drunk daily and pick up a quarrel with their mother, and this upset Sanjay.

The Konanakunte police have arrested Sanjay and produced him before a magistrate, who remanded him to judicial custody. The police are yet to take the statement of the mother as she is being treated for injuries.
