<p class="bodytext">Groups supporting two different Youth Congress leaders allegedly engaged themselves in a physical confrontation during the Quit India Movement’s anniversary programme organised by Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee at Town Hall in the city on Thursday.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Several Congress workers were injured in the incident.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Soon after the culmination of the programme, Punit Shetty of INTUC and Srinivas, a supporter of District Youth Congress Committee President Mithun Rai, allegedly abused each other physically. Congress leaders K Harish Kumar, former Minister B Ramanath Rai, MLC Ivan D’Souza and others intervened and calmed down the enraged. Mithun Rai, too, was present.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Punit Shetty, who was injured during the clash, has been admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru. He has submitted a complaint at Mangaluru South police station, against 13 people, including Mithun Rai, of assaulting him and posing a life threat.</p>.<p class="bodytext">However, Mithun Rai has refused the charge and said that it was a matter ofthe party workers and he is not involved in it any way.</p>.<p class="bodytext">A case was registered against Punit Shetty for allegedly threatening a party worker. This was the reason for the clash.</p>
