Congress workers gherao Jayamala

Congress workers, led by CMC member Ramesh Kanchan, gheraoed District-In-charge Minister Jayamala during her visit to district Congress Bhavana in the city on Tuesday.

The workers expressed their displeasure at her for not standing behind them while police resorted to lathi charge during All India bandh in Udupi and for not visiting them in the hospital. They demanded the minister to transfer Udupi SP. “Instead of giving us justice, you (Jayamala) had lunch at the SP's house,” the activists said.

As Jayamala came out after taking part in 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi, organised by Udupi district Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Raj Sanghatane, more than 25 workers gheraoed her and expressed their displeasure.

Embarrassed, Jayamala tried to pacify the workers and said, “I have collected information from the SP and have directed him to punish the wrongdoers. The party workers need not try to scare me by keeping forth media and don't try to act,” she said and left the venue.
