The craft fair is sponsored by Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textile in association with the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation, Guwahati. The fair will be open till July 12.

Inaugurating the fair, Nalin Kumar lauded the fact that people from different states were coming to Mangalore to showcase their art, culture and handicraft.

“It would be difficult to peep into the lifestyle of the people of the North Eastern states otherwise.

But this exhibition allows us to know more about the life of the North Eastern people through their art. People of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi must support this kind of exhibition,” he said.

North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation General Manager D C Borkotoky said that the aim of the fair is to create awareness among other cities of the nation about the richness of isolated states of North East. He said that the authenticity of the fair is increased many folds as citizens from North East themselves come forth to sell it. He termed the fair to be a ‘platform for cultural exchange’.

Cane furniture, baskets, mats, handloom ethic wears of the East, sarees, bed linen, shawls and various other handloom and handicrafts are exhibited for sale.
