Lovely Anand, Sadhu Yadav angry as supporters denied tickets

Last Updated 28 September 2010, 08:12 IST

Expressing unhappiness, the former MPs blamed some Congress leaders for denial of tickets to their supporters.

A Congress worker close to Lovely Anand said that the politician was unhappy as names of many of her supporters were missing from the list of candidates despite assurance by the party.

Lovely Anand is the wife of former MP Anand Mohan, who has been in jail for the past three years in the 1994 murder of Gopalganj district magistrate G. Krishnaiah. Mohan has been convicted for the killing and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Dozens of Lovely Anand's supporters protested and raised slogans against the Congress in Saharsa district Tuesday morning and asked her not to file nomination papers Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Sadhu Yadav has reportedly resigned from the state Congress election campaign committee after his supporters were denied tickets.
A Congress leader close to Sadhu Yadav said he was deeply hurt as his supporters were denied tickets.

Sadhu Yadav, who is brother-in-law of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad, contested the Lok Sabha election on a Congress ticket in 2009 but lost.
Lovely Anand was earlier in the Janata Dal (United) and Sadhu Yadav in the RJD before they joined the Congress last year.

The Congress late Monday released the first list of 77 candidates for the October-November Bihar assembly elections. The party is contesting all 243 seats in the assembly on its own.
