Bouquets for Games Village

A day after India’s swimmers expressed satisfaction over their living area at the Games Village, athletes and officials from England and Australia, who have been especially critical of the lead-up to October 3-14 Games, expressed the confidence that Deli would host a successful event. For the first time since the opening of the Games Village, the media was allowed access to the international zone for 45 minutes on Tuesday.

The long wait of the lensmen and scribes, keen to know the athletes’ assessment of the Village, bore fruition when foreign delegates and athletes walked into the international zone—which provides them with several shopping options ranging from Games’ merchandise to handicrafts—in batches.

England women hockey players Kerry Williams and Nicola White, members of the World Cup bronze medal-winning squad in Argentina, said they had been taken in by the hospitality of the Indians. “It’s fantastic to be here. Excellent and very nice people. Obviously, we were a little worried with the news of hygiene and security, but once we reached here, things looked good. We are now looking forward to putting up a good show in the event,” said Williams after trying her hand at the golf simulator.
