Transport dept issues LLs in colleges

Last Updated 28 September 2010, 19:05 IST

Issuing the licences, Transport Commissioner Bhaskar Rao urged youngsters to be careful while riding their vehicles on the road.

"Students with less experience in riding vehicles try to perform stunts and wheelie on the road and loose control of the vehicle and injure themselves. There have been instances where youngsters (below the age of 18 years) have lost their lives in the road accidents and their parents were not able to claim insurance as their child never had a driving licence," he said.

The Transport Department is taking an initiative to educate students about the road safety.

In the first phase, students of Christ University were given a talk on "Teens and Road Safety" in the month of August. Futher, the RTO at Koramanagala, conducted a test and 120 students were shortlisted for receiving the LL.

The department also issued over 100 LL to students of Adarsha College in Jayanagar on Monday.
