His arresting installation photographs produced over the last year, speak of the artist’s keen eye for dramatic impact. Some of the photographs are almost theatrical. In one of the pictures, a long line of fishermen is poised on the edge of the water before the sea on a Goan shore. In another, they merge to form a canoe with oars.

The beach, sea, water, have been a recurring theme in Kerkar’s work. “For two years I have been working on the concept of man’s symbiotic relationship with water and the sea. When the exhibition’s curator got in touch to say the theme would be water, the coincidence was almost uncanny.”

Kerkar will display 13 sculptures and nine installation photographs at the German show.
Every year the EU selects one of its cities for a major year-long cultural event. The Ruhr Valley, better known as Germany’s industrial heartland, was selected for this year's international show.

Fifty artists from fourteen countries will take part in this phase of the event. Other Indian artists at the show will be Sushil Kumar, Rajan Fulari and Jyotee. Herbert Schero is a German participant. Pamela Singh, an artist of Indian origin will represent the USA.
