State secretary B V Raghavulu on Tuesday said the party would soon meet the chief minister and demand stern action against the MFIs.

The party also demanded a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for each of the kin of the persons committed suicide. “Let the company that abetted the crime pay the compensation”, he said.
The CPM pointed out that the state government, which has assured financial linkage from banks to the tune of Rs 750  for  64,000 Self Help Groups (SHGs), had only  disbursed Rs 150 crore to only 5,000 SHGs, forcing the women SHG members knock the doors of the unscrupulous MFIs. Blaming the government for the deaths of innocent farmers and women, the CPM said all the suicides are nothing but “micro murders”.

The party also announced an action plan to fight against the MFIs. Attributing the callous nature of the MFIs to the spurt in suicides, the CPM alleged that these institutions have all the blessings from the ruling Congress government in the state and the UPA at the Centre.
