Today, this tradition unfolds itself in an overwhelming variety of products; combining aesthetic appeal with utilitarian value, to satisfy today’s tastes and meets international demands.

Karnataka Emporium is holding an exhibition-cum-sale of traditional handloom and handicraft items at Hemachandrasagar Kalyana Mantapa, Near Ashoka Pillar, 2 Block, Jayanagar till October 17. On display will be handcrafted silver jewellery from Jaipur, precious and semi-precious stones from Jaipur, fresh water pearls which are well-shaped, tested and issued, handcrafted stone-studded bangles from Jaipur and Hyderabad, wood carvings from Mysore, Saharanpur, marble carvings from Agra, miniature replicas of Taj Mahal in marble, traditional toys from Channapatna, Banjara hand-embroidery articles from Andhra Pradesh and clay articles and jewellery from West Bengal.

There will also be saris and dress materials from Rajasthan and Gujarat, hand- stitched cotton razais, which are mostly done by ladies from remote villages in Rajasthan, ethnic cotton tops and skirts from Ahmedabad and Gujarat, Ikkath silk and cotton saris from Sambalpur, Orissa and Pochampalli and many more.
