The district administration also failed to conduct 125th birth anniversary celebrations of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, he added.

Lakshman observed that the Chief Minister had approved Rs 10 crore for the Dasara festival. But, instead of spending the money to promote tourism, the money was sent back to the government. “What is this foolishness?” he questioned.

Lack of basic amenities

Commenting on the events, Lakshman said that no drinking water facility was provided during the festival. Prizes were announced for Mane Mane Dasara, but it never reached the participants, he said.

Lakshman said that Dasara website that attracts nearly 50 per cent of the tourists to visit Mysore was not even updated this year. Condemning the high-handedness of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lakshman remarked that there was no use creating 35 subcommittees unless their suggestions are taken into consideration.

He said that previous DCs were from South India and had a lot of interest in organising the festival, “Whereas this person has not invited public for suggestions.”Observing that no tableau was installed to depict Tipu Sultan’s contribution to old Mysore, Lakshman said that it would be difficult for tourists to understand the significance without providing any information on the tableaux.

Exhibition disastrous

Slamming the Karnataka Exhibition Authority (KEA), Lakshman said that nothing was right at the exhibition. He said that exhibition has become a commercial hub and has failed to highlight art, science, and technological achievements.

He said that a legal notice will be served against KEA for the exorbitant rates and unhygienic food being served. He said that there is no security for women and children at the exhibition. The amusement games have neither any fitness certificate nor insurance, he added.

Yoga camp

Sri Vedavyasa Yoga Foundation Mysore is organising a nine-day pranayama, mudras and samhita dhyana camp from October 22 to 30 between 6.15 pm and 7.15 pm by Yogaguru Dr K Raghavendra R Pai at No 37,  Mahamaya, Balakrishnarao Road, Near Ballal Circle, Chamarajpuram. For details contact 9448174457.
