For the first time the day is being celebrated by the Government. Valmiki who lived about 2,000 years ago is considered the first poet of Sanskrit literature. According to legends, Valmiki was a robber and reformed into a poet after he developed faith in god.

He wrote Ramayana, one of the great epics of India. The State Cabinet declared Valmiki’s birthday as a general holiday. The Government had released Rs 25,000 each to all districts and Rs 5,000 each to taluks for the celebrations. The state-level celebrations will be held at Banquet Hall in Vidhana Soudha.
