Implement innovative ideas, VC suggests principals

Speaking after inaugurating a one-day State-level seminar on “Role of principals in the changing global scenario,” organised by the Association of First Grade College Principals of Mangalore University at Dharmasthala here on Sunday, he said government and
universities should guide colleges from time to time.

At the same time, he also felt that the principals should be given autonomy. In the present set up, principals are answerable to the management, university and government in almost all matters leaving them with very little freedom to decide on their own, for the betterment of their respective institutions. Presiding over the seminar, Yenepoya University Vice-Chancellor Prof Sayyed Akheel Ahmmed called upon the principals to implement innovative ideas. “Principals should be the guiding light to youth and the education should include humane values.”

Stating that more than 50 per cent of Indian population is below 35 years of age, he said India has a huge manpower. But there is a need to convert the manpower to resourceful persons so that the they become assets and not liability.
