Kannada translation of Verma's works to hit stands today

Janaki who retired as a Principal of Government Women’s First Grade, Mandya has translated Hindi works of famous Jnanpit awardee Mahadevi Verma into Kannada titled ‘Gathakalada Nenapina Chitragalu’ and ‘Smrithiya Rekhegalu’. Verma’s work ‘Yama’  won him Jnanpit.

A close associate of Mahatma Gandhiji and Madanamohan Malaviya, Varma had returned ‘Padmabhushana’ award in protest against emergency. However, in the year 1988, the Union Government had awarded him ‘Padmavibhooshana’ posthumous during Republic Day.
He had also served as the member of Uttar Pradesh legislative council for a term. He was also a famous painter.

Janaki who began her career as a hindi lecturer has shown her proficiency in translating the works of the great author. Writer Dr Krishnamurthy Hanur will release the books at a programme organised at Namana Kalamantapa in Krishnamurthypuram on the day at 10.30 am.

Hindi scholar Dr Thippeswamy will speak about the works and HoD, Jainology, Dr Padma Shekar is the chief guest. Another hindi scholar Dr M S Krishnamurthy presides.
