Diego Parez, the world renowned hairstylist and make-up artist, was in town recently to promote a famous French herbal hair brand. Metrolife caught up with him for an afternoon of beauty talk. Clad in skinny jeans and a classic old leather jacket, he epitomized style and grace. He provided some rather interesting haircare tips and his European sense of humour was just the icing on the cake.

“It is ironic for someone, who is bald, to promote a hair-product. But I guess that is the marketing strategy because they think, this man can't lie, he is already bald!” he said.
Diego voiced a rather deep thought when he said, “Beauty is an illusion. People all over the world want to look better all the time and I feel gratified that I hold the key to that illusion.” He also said that most hair products promise results immediately and probably even give them momentarily but the consumer pays the price as they have harmful chemicals. “Remember, a healthy scalp implies healthy hair, so you need to fix your scalp first if you have hair problems. Use essential oils before shampooing that will make half the difference,” he added.

Speaking about hair loss, he said, “There are two kinds of hair loss, hormonal hair loss and reactionary hair loss. If you suffer from hair loss which is hormonal, there is absolutely nothing that can grow your hair back, because it is a progressive disorder. You just might be able to reduce hair fall but can never stop it.”

In Indian context he said that most Indians have frizzy hair and, a combination of avocado oil and myrrh extract will provide essential nourishment and reduce the dryness.
Speaking of trends, he said that globally because of high stress levels, people are too hooked on to volume, as most of them have thin hair but in India the problem is of  nourishment. “Hair care cannot be superficial, it is highly subjective, and it varies from person to person. Proper diagnosis of the problem is one step towards healthy hair,” he added.

While speaking about one myth that he would like to break, he said, “People who have oily hair with dandruff usually have second thoughts about washing it daily. They have to wash it regularly because the scalp needs oxygen; dandruff and dust deprive the scalp of that much needed oxygen.”
