Will continue my fast till AFSPA is withdrawn: Sharmila

"Even if AFSPA is amended, I will continue my stir till the Act is withdrawn from Manipur," Sharmila, now at the J N Hospital here, told PTI. The 35-year-old activist, who will complete 10 years of her fast on November 2, said she is not afraid of death. She is nasal fed liquids by doctors.

"People would die one day. But during one's life he or she should live with full dignity," she said. Official sources said Sharmila, who is in judicial custody, was being fed through nose at the hospital where a room was converted into a jail.

Sharmila launched her fast unto death after 10 civilians were killed in an alleged encounter by Assam Rifles personnel near Imphal airport. He was recently awarded the Rabindranath Tagore Peace prize which carried a cash prize of Rs 51 lakh by the Indian Institute of Planning and Management.
