Congress performs 'last rites' of MLAs

Congress leaders performing ‘last rites’ of Jagaluru MLA Ramachandrappa and Bangarapet MLA Narayanaswamy who left the party, at Santhe Maidan in Chikmagalur on Wednesday.

This came as an expression of contempt against the move of the MLAs of quitting the party.
District Congress Committee President M L Murthy garlanded the portraits of the two MLAs and started the rituals. The protesters placed ‘ragi mudde,’ mutton curry, puris, beedi packet, match box, beetle leaves and beetle nuts, tobacco, one bottle of alcohol, coconut, bananas and various other items on two plantain leaves as it is done in case of death of a person. Shouting out slogans against the two, all the food items served on the plantain leaves were kept open for dogs.

While the dogs lavished on the mutton pieces, beedi, brandy, plantain and coconut were later picked by onlookers.
