Palike's 793 data entry operators' jobs in peril

Last Updated 29 October 2010, 18:40 IST

An inquiry into the work of data entry operators is already underway and in a week's time, the report will be out, said Palike Commissioner Siddaiah at the Council Meeting. His statement came when corporator Gangabyraiah raised the matter in the council referring to the case of Deepa, who was hired as a data entry operator  in the horticulture department, but is acting as personal secretary to the joint director of the department.

Gangabyraiah claimed that Deepa had sent her resume to various departments seeking job and had allegedly stated that she is dealing with finance, inventory dealings and personal secretary to the joint director.

Participating in the debate, former Mayor Chandrashekhar said this is not an isolated incident but many such people are working in various departments of the BBMP. He said work had been outsourced to the private parties, particularly in the Town Planning Department, Revenue Department and Education Department. He alleged that teachers hired for Palike schools are working in private schools and are drawing salaries from two places.

The leader of JD(S) in the Council, Padmanabha Reddy said there are instances where a person hired on temporary basis is drawing salary from two different departments. Going through all the discussion, the Commissioner said he is aware of the practice and had ordered an inquiry sometime ago. He said he is looking into all the instances and also the need to have all the 793 data entry operators who came through KIONICS two years back.
