A feast of talents

The annual cultural fest had close to 30 colleges participating from across the State and each college vying with each other for the top spot. Neeraj Shridhar, lead singer of Bombay Vikings, was the man of the moment and received a huge ovation from the waiting crowds. The concert kicked off with the band performing some of their biggest hits including Singh is Kingg and Going to Hollywood. The crowds were ecstatic and were seen dancing and rocking to the music. The maximum number of prizes at Swayam 2009 was won by the host college, MVJ College of Engineering. The event was conceptualised by Limelights. Addressing the gathering during the closing ceremony, Sujatha Subhash, Principal, MVJCE, said, “Like every year, we have had a tremendous response to our annual fest with over 30 colleges participating from across the City. We owe the success of ‘Swayam’ to our students and faculty, whose hard work and dedication has ensured that every event was conducted in the utmost professional manner.”

Winners all the way

In the Indian light music event, MVJCE bagged the first place and Don Bosco College took the second place. St John’s Medical College took the first place in the Mad Ads competition with MVJCE taking the second place. The first place in vocal solos was bagged by St John’s Medical College while the second place was won by Don Bosco School. Poster-making segment saw Mahaveer Jain College come first and MVJCE stand second. Rags modelling had Baldwin’s Girls’ College winning first place while MVJC stood second. In ‘Robotics’, the first place went to PVP Polytechnical College and Ujwal Vidhyalaya bagged the second place. In the Western Dance Category, MVJ College of Engineering, came out first and KSIT took the second place. On day two, in the Indian Dance category, Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology took the first place while the second place went to MVJ College of Engineering. ‘Battle of the Bands’ was won by Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering. In the quiz competition, MVJ College stood first with St John’s Medical College going second. St John’s Medical College took the first place for the ‘Roller Coaster’ event with MVJ following a close second.
