A suicide bomber detonated his explosives during Friday prayers in the Akharwal area of Darra Adam Khel, which borders Peshawar, the capital of the northwestern province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

Hours later attackers hurled three hand grenades into a mosque during evening prayers in the suburb of Peshawar, the capital of KP.

Rafiq Khan, a senior official in Darra Adam Khel, said that the total number of people killed in the first mosque bombing had reached 82.

“Altogether 71 people were injured and of these 40 are still hospitalised. Some of them are in critical condition,” Khan said, adding that 15 to 20 kg of explosive material was used in the suicide vest.

However, an hour after the report was compiled at Darra Adam Khel, three more wounded succumbed to their injuries at the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar.
Taliban militants claimed responsibility for both attacks.
