He was replying to the felicitation accorded to him at a programme organised in Tumkur on Wednesday.

Parameshwara said the Congress to gear itself to return back to power and once again hold the reigns of administration in the State. This was a testing time for the Congress. It had to strive hard keeping in mind the welfare of the people suffering in the hands of the BJP government. Dissidence and displeasure should be set aside and the workers should unite at this important hour and be prepared to write a new chapter in the pages of politics and thank the people for bestowing their faith and regard in the Congress, he said.

We cannot forget the the sacrifice made by farmer Chandrashekhar Bannikod (36) who laid his life for seeking justice. The BJP government is responsible for his death. The government should provide suitable compensation to Bannikod’s family members and give him justice, the KPCC chief said.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan tendered his resignation, owning moral responsiblity. Such were the principals followed by Sonia Gandhi. Whereas, the BJP, neither believes nor practices any ideals. Otherwise, by this time, Yeddyurappa should have resigned as Chief Minister long back, he said.

Dr Parameshwara was taken out in a procession before being brought to the programme. A bike rally was also organised to mark the occasion. Thousands of party members from different parts of the district took part in the event. Leaders, workers, followers felicitated the new president.
