Held at the B M Shrinivasaiah Auditorium of the college, the members of the Kannada Sangha were geared up to entertain the gathering with various art forms.  All the performances were meant for upholding the rich culture of the State.

S Shadakshari, the executive director of Ramanashri Group and a columnist, was the chief guest.  He wished the students a great success and released a handout, Chirantana, published by the members of Kannada Sangha.

The cultural evening began with a beautiful rendering of Hachchevu Kannadada Deepa, a song by Asha and Krithi. Up next was a Bharatanatyam performance by Deepti. Dressed in a sky-blue coloured costume, she succeeded to enthral the gathering with her graceful movements.

The members of drama club enacted a small play which upheld the greatness of the State. The nine-member-team sarcastically dramatised the bad state of Kannada language and how it’s not being spoken amongst people anymore. The funny dialogues and quick movements were appreciated by one and all with a big applause.

An excellent puppet show by Vedas and team was the highlight of the evening. The talented students skillfully presented various dance sequences — six gopikas playing kolaata, a cobra dancing to the tunes of a snake charmer, a humourous conversation between a king and his minister, a fight between wrestlers and a dance by Yakshagana artistes holding diyas in their hands.

All these sequences took the spectators away to a magical world.  Kiran, a talented student, made the audience roar with laughter with his mimicry and humourous acts. He imitated the famous actors of Sandalwood as well as the anchors of various television programmes. He shook his leg to various dance numbers aping many stars for which, he got a huge round of applause.

“I witnessed the entire programme. It was entertaining as well as inspiring. I read the column of S Shadakshari everyday, but today, I got the opportunity to listen to his speech which was truly inspiring. All my friends gave a wonderful performance today, for which, they have been preparing for a month,” said

Abhishek, a student.
