'Govt blackmailing Opposition'

Last Updated 15 November 2010, 16:41 IST

Siddaramaiah was reacting to Yeddyurappa’s press conference wherein the latter revealed denotifications of land done by the previous governments. The Chief Minister had stated that Siddaramaiah had recommended denotifying of land for a person known to him.

Refuting the charge, Siddaramaiah said denotification of land is not illegal but denotifying land by keeping the laws at bay is not permissible. He said no Congress government had done so in the past.

"Nepotism is not allowed. There should be some justice in denotification of land. The chief minister denotified land to favour his sons, which is nothing but a crime," said Siddaramaiah.
He challenged the chief minister to come out with “something concrete” against the Opposition party leaders and prosecute them.
"If we have done something illegal then prosecute us and send us to jail. We are ready to face any challenge but why is he (chief minister) afraid of revealing the so-called facts about the Opposition leaders. I think he (Yeddyurappa) has not much to reveal," said Siddaramaiah.
Siddaramaiah warned the government that any attempt to reduce the number of reserved seats in the Zilla Panchayats and Taluk Panchayats would not be tolerated.
