Addressing a press meet here on Sunday, he said the government should write to the Union government to drop the proposal. “On the proposal of world heritage site, I had contacted Prime Minister’s office and department of heritage. The officials had said that the previous government had okayed the proposal. The government can suspend the  decision taken by the previous government on world heritage site. Hence, the government should take a decision to suspend the decision taken by the previous government in the Cabinet meeting.”

It was during S M Krishna’s government the proposal to declare Talacauvery, Brahmagiri and Pushpagiri sanctuary as world heritage site was sent to UNESCO, he added.

He said “though the proposal was sent to UNESCO seven year ago, no discussions were held so far. Some organisations are supporting the move. Hence, there is confusion among people on the proposal. We do not want the project when people of the district are opposing it. In this background, Cabinet has to take a decision on suspending the previous government’s order on the proposal,” he added.

Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah should pressurise Chief Minister to suspend previous government’s decision on world heritage site.

Vishwanath said “Kodagu district has several problems. The tribals are protesting for the implementation of Forest Rights Act in the district. The work on the  implementation of Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification scheme has been suspended in the district. Discussion must be held on development projects in the district. In this background, Chief Minister should review the implementation of various projects in the district on Monday.”
