Cantt station sans water for two days

Last Updated 02 July 2009, 19:27 IST

Passengers, particularly women, are having a tough time at the station, as the only Pay-and-Use toilet was closed for 48 hours due to non-availability of water.

Water supply has been quite erratic at the station for the past two months. Instead of the 24-hour water supply earlier, water was supplied for six hours in a staggered manner during the last couple of months. “However, even the water to be supplied for two hours in the morning, evening and night were not adhered to,” said a top railway official.

Sarwan, an employee seated outside the only toilet on Platform One said, “People are scolding me for locking up the toilet. I am helpless, as there is no water to clean it, there is unbearable stench.”

The railway officials were at the receiving end of passengers anger. An old woman was heard railing against the station master thus, “You are being very unfair to us. You can’t even provide a basic facility like water. Can’t you do something about this?”

“BWSSB has been repeatedly assuring us that the problem would be attended to. I hope it is set right tonight (Thursday night) at least,” said an official.

Meanwhile, BWSSB claimed that there was no big problem at all. “Due to intermittent power cuts, some shortage might have been experienced. However, we are supplying them with water during the promised hours from the High Grounds reservoir,” claimed an official.
