The family of the girl has alleged that the husband of an employee of the school had raped the girl a few months back. The culprit against whom an FIR had been registered used to take the third standard student for outings, they further alleged.

The girl, blind by birth, was admitted to the government girls college for the blind in the state capital in 2009. She used to live in the hostel inside the college premises.

About a month back, the girl, while visiting her village in Lakhimpur-Kheri district, complained of stomach pain following which she was taken to a doctor by her family members.

Much to their shock and dismay, the doctors informed them that she was pregnant.
The girl, according to the family members, then disclosed that she was raped by the husband of an employee of the college. She also alleged that she was taken to some hospitals by some college employees for aborting the foetus but the doctor refused as she was four months pregnant and it would have been very risky.

She further alleged that she had been threatened with dire consequences if she revealed about the incident to her family members.

An office-bearer of the college claimed that the girl might have been raped by someone at her village during the summer vacations. “Security arrangements are very tight in the girls’ hostel...no male is allowed to come in and the girls are sent out with their family members only”, she said.

“We have registered a case against a person on the basis of the complaint lodged by the family members....the matter is under investigation”, police officials said.
