A single caricature is enough to portray the history of an entire era, said D K Chowta, an artist, writer and industrialist.

Inaugurating the exhibition of works by noted cartoonist Prabhakar Bhatlekar at the Indian Cartoon Gallery here on Tuesday, Chowta said cartoons were not 'mere lines'.

“In effect, they are the intellectual comment of a cartoonist on the political and social dynamics of society. His single caricature of Gandhi can depict that entire tumultuous era,” Chowta said. Bhatlekar has drawn cartoons of politicians, achievers in music, art, sports and global icons in the IT industry.

The cartoonist maintained that he didn't adopt any particular style for the exhibition which has about 50 select caricatures and 12 cartoons. The exhibition will go on till December 11 except on Sundays.
