At a meeting of the District Crisis Management Committee on Tuesday Deputy Commissioner M K Aiyappa cautioned factories against use of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders.

As many as 13 factories in the City use LPG, he said adding that they should keep strict vigil on the operations involving chemicals.

On shifting the LPG bottling unit of the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited from Mahadevapura, Aiyappa said he had written to the Tumkur deputy commissioner on acquiring 73 acres near Chikkanahalli, Yediyur through the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB).

The bottling unit would have to be shifted there within 18 months after the land acquisition, he said.

A mock emergency drill will be held on December 7 to create awareness on safety measures at factories. A control room will be set up for the purpose.
