BSNL employees begin three-day strike

Protestors across Mysore, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Hassan participate

Members of various BSNL Associations who staged a token protest under the banner of BSNL Employees Union for an hour from 10.30 am in front of General Manager’s office in Jayalakshmipuram, vociferously demanded that the Union Government returns the amount to the tune of `18,000 crore forcibly invested for 2G Spectrum, besides revoking the decision on giving voluntary retirement to one lakh employees, consider Indian Technical Service (ITS) staff as BSNL staffers and treat them on par with the latter and restore the earlier 33 per cent maintenance grant for rural areas.

On Wednesday, nearly 100 employees participated in the sit-in demonstration. They were led by BSNL Employees Union Co-ordinator Bhaskar, Vishakanta, Gundannaa, Ganesh and others.

They raised slogans against the centre for employing lackadaisical attitude despite of staging protests on several occasions.

Following the strike the work is paralysed as 1,800 staff comprising Mysore and Chamarajanagar districts coming under Mysore region have taken to streets.
They will be staging token protests on December 2 and 3 too to apprise the government of their demands.

Mandya

BSNL workers in Mandya also boycotted their work demanding for 78.2 per cent hike in dearness allowance apart from other demands. District Association leaders Ramegowda, Melannanavar, Srinivas and others were present.

Hassan

About 500 BSNL employees in the district boycotted work and joined the nation-wide protest demanding the central government to stop the auction of 3G spectrum and opposed disinvestment of the public sector telecom agencies. The office-bearers of the Association Y G Nandi, M K Ramdas, S Nagaraju, D V Samapth Kumar and others led the protest.

Chamarajanagar

They protesters gathered in front of the BSNL office and raised slogans against the Centre.

They criticised the step-motherly attitude of the Centre on the government institutions rendering them sick units. Privatisation is not the solution for the problems as it would as put lakhs of families into trouble.

Moreover, the private companies will enjoy the profit, they stated.
BSNL officers Mahadevu, Venkataramu, Rajashetty, Govindaraju, ITS officials and others participated.
