'All's not well with social welfare dept'

The scarcity of funds is hampering implementation of developmental works. Moreover, the Social Welfare Department requires adequate funds as maximum number of beneficiaries belong to dalits, backward classes and minority communities.

He was speaking after performing ‘guddali puja’ for construction of pre-metric hostel for boys at Sanehalli village near Halebeedu in Hassan district on Thursday.

Hostel

The minister said that the State Government has sanctioned Rs one crore for construction of this hostel at Sanehalli.

Threatening to blacklist the contractor, the minister said he would direct the officials concerned to stop release of grants if the contractors fail to maintain quality in works.

There are a lot of complaints from public against contractors of the district over shoddy quality of work.

Speaking on the same occasion, MLA Rudreshgowda charged the wardens under Social Welfare Department over supplying poor quality food to inmates of the department hostels.

Residential school

The wardens must realise that that they are serving food to future builders of this nation.
He demanded Minister Narayanaswamy to caution the officers of his department to deliver their duty with honesty.

The MLA told that district administration had sanctioned 12 acres of land for construction of Kittur Rani Chennamma Residential School near Halebeedu and Rs five crore was earmarked by the State Government for the purpose.

Gram Panchayat President Shivalingegowda, Zilla Panchayat Member M D Kousalya and officials from social welfare department were present.
