Youth in trouble over vulgar posts

Last Updated 02 December 2010, 17:00 IST

Considering the act of Gaurav Ranjan akin to ragging, the varsity officials not only suspended the final year BSc student for three months but also barred him from appearing in the fifth semester examination.

According to officials, Ranjan, a native of Jharkhand, had been posting obscene comments on the two girls on “Facebook” and also used to send them vulgar SMSs for the past two years. But, the girls did not muster enough courage to lodge a complaint.
However, on seeing another obscene message on November 21 last, they lodged a complaint with the anti-ragging committee of the varsity.

The members of the committee conducted a thorough inquiry into the matter and found the allegations against Ranjan to be true. He was subsequently suspended.
“No case has been lodged as the girls were satisified with the action against Ranjan and did not want to pursue the matter further,”the officials said.

Three incidents of ragging had been recorded in the varsity this year. Three residents of Visvesvaraya hostel were expelled after they thrashed a junior student inside the campus a few months ago.

In another incident, a girl student of an affiliated college had allegedly beaten a junior girl student following which the former was expelled from the college.
