Minister warns action against erring officers in district

Takes stock of progress of various projects in the district

The meeting was organised at the Zilla Panchayat auditorium hall in Chikkaballapur on Thursday.

Following complaints that some of the beneficiaries of the ‘Bhagyalakshmi’ scheme have not receive sarees, she sought clarification from the Women and Child Welfare Department Deputy Director Shahar Banu.

Not convinced by the officer’s reply, the minister remarked that the officer had informed that the beneficiaries were provided sarees at the Chief Minister’s saree distribution programme in the district.

But even after two months of the programme, the beneficiaries yet to get the sarees. She directed the officer to issue notice to the authorities concerned and seek answer to why the beneficiaries were not given sarees.

The Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) members alleged that farmers have been cheated under the ‘Ganga Kalyana yojana’. “Eligible beneficiaries have been deprived of the benefits of the scheme,” they pointed dout.

Under the scheme, the officiers have provided borewells to those who already own one. Poor farmers are neglected by the officials, they complained. Irked over it, the minister directed them to bring any misuse of the scheme to her or the legislator’s notice.

District Health Officer Dr B N Bairareddy told the minister that the hospitals in the district lack doctors and other medical staff. The situation is same at the primary health centres too. A proposal seeking grants has been submitted to the government, he said.

At this, Deputy Commissioner N Manjula informed the meeting that the district hospital needs to be upgraded with 40-bed wards and it requires Rs 30 lakh grant. A proposal seeking the same has been submitted to the government she added.

The minister directed the education department officials to emphasise on building toilets and drinking water facilities at the government schools rather than just constructing classrooms. She directed the officials to complete Jakkalamadugu scheme to enable the citizens in the district to have drinking water.

Zilla Panchayat president R Vinutha Srinivas, District In-charge Secretary N C Muniyappa, ZP CEO B S Shekharappa and MLAs N Sampangi and K P Bacchegowda were present.

‘Sort it out locally’

Minister Shobha Karandlaje warned the officers concerned to sort out district or taluk issues at their level and must not bring it to Vidhana Soudha. “I would take strict action against erring officers and those who fail to respond to people’s problems,” she said.
