Documents, which have now surfaced, show that Yeddyurappa’s son-in-law, Sohan Kumar, had taken possession of a BDA site illegally.

Yeddyurappa, when he was leader of the Opposition in 2005, had recommended to the then chief minister Dharam Singh that a BDA site under ‘G’ category be allotted to one, R P Shankar. Singh allotted a site measuring 40X60 feet in HSR Layout in August 2005.

Then, Shankar had filed an affidavit saying that he did not own any property in Bangalore. As per BDA conditions, he was not entitled to either sell or gift the site to others for the next 10 years.

In clear violation of the norms, Shankar gifted the site to his sister Vinoda Nataraj in October 2007. The site was registered in Vinoda’s name in October 2008. Again, Vinoda transferred the site to the possession of her son Sohan Kumar on August 23 this year.

The property was registered in Kumar’s name on August 31, according to documents in the possession of Deccan Herald.

Yeddyurappa’s family has been at the centre of a controversy over allotment of ‘G’ category sites. He had allotted sites to his son B Y Raghavendra, sister Premamma and two other close relatives. After the issue became public, he ensured that his family members surrendered the sites.
