Denied dowry, drunk magistrate beats up would-be wife

The Kotwali police here registered a case against magistrate Inder Singh Malaviya from Shahdol, who demanded Rs one lakh in cash and a Maruti car on Wednesday night from the girl's family, they said.

The case was registered after a complaint was filed by Monica Solanki whom Malaviya was to wed.In her complaint, Solanki said Malaviya came to her house in an inebriated state and demanded dowry from her family. When they refused he even slapped her and threatened to take her away forcibly.

After the incident, the proposed marriage was called off. However, no further action has been taken against the judge so far, police said.
