Judge begins probe into custodial death

Vadivel, a resident of Beeranakuppa, who was under custody of Ramakuppam police in Andhra Pradesh, died in the outskirts of the city on Saturday.

Rajashekhar, who visited the mortuary of the Government Hospital in the city on Sunday morning, inspected Vadivel’s body. Later, he spoke to the victim’s relatives and collected their statements regarding the death.

He also visited Beeranakuppa village, where Vadivel had fallen to his death from a hillock, and inspected the spot of the fatal accident.

Tahsildar Nagaraj accompanied Rajashekhar during the investigation.

AP SI lodges complaint

Ramakuppam Police Sub-inspector Ashok Kumar lodged a complaint with Andersonpet police regarding Vadivel’s death. An FIR has been filed on the basis of his complaint.

However, as the case is now being investigated by the judiciary, the police are unable to conduct any official investigation.

District Superintendent of Police Debajyoti Ray informed Deccan Herald that the police would take action on the basis of the Magistrate’s report.

The post-mortem was conducted on Sunday afternoon. Vadivel’s body was then taken to Beeranakuppa.

City Municipal Council president Dayananda, former MLA M Bhaktavatsalam, Zilla Panchayat member Venkatarama Reddy, leader Muniratnam Naidu and others visited the Government Hospital in the city.
