The tuskers, which had entered Belur taluk via Arsikere, were becoming intolerable as they are damaging the standing crops in the region and terrorising farmers. They were spotted at Hebbalu and surrounding villages for the past two days and today at Mudigere taluk,  which is situated just half a km from the State highway near Hassan.

Though the Forest department is trying its best to drive back those elephants into its habitat, those animals are evading the department personnel for the last 15 days. The department staff is camping in the area for this purpose. The availability of crops such as sugar cane, jowar and others might be one of the reasons for these wild jumbos to camp here. On Monday, the elephants were seen playing in the water for the whole day thus making the task difficult for the department personnel.

Range Forest Officer Chengappa is camping in the area to supervise the operation.
