Delivering a talk, thinker Narayana Manur said that Dalit movement has lost its relevance when compared to the 1980s, owing to systematic political conspiracy which aimed at destroying it.

He said that Dalit leaders have failed to follow the ideologies put forth by Ambedkar. “If we follow upper caste people and their traditions, then we are made victims of atrocities. They make us scapegoats for unwanted reasons.” Manur said the BJP government that propagates Manu ideologies is trying to achieve monopoly over the food rights of Dalits. The attempt of BJP government to implement Anti Cow Slaughter Bill signifies uncivilised approach of the government.

“The BJP has the hidden agenda to push back the Dalits. Today Dalits have political equality. Matadhipatis should be ashamed of themselves for supporting a corrupt Chief Minister. They lack concern towards backward community.”

The workshop was earlier inaugurated by International Union of Karnataka Christian Associations, Udupi Unit President Louis Lobo. The Dalita Sangharasha Samiti (Ambedkar Vada) also observed B R Ambedkar’s death anniversary at Ambedkar Bhavan, Udupi.

Speaking on the occasion, Tahsildar V Prasannakumar said Ambedkar had raised voice against the atrocities meted out on Dalits. He was the voice of lower class.

“The discrimination and injustices against Dalits have come down drastically. However, it could not be eradicated. There is a need to give emphasis to education among lower class and create awareness on the welfare programmes of the government for the upliftment of the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe.”
