Four arrested for murder

The suspects, Velaiah (29), Shiva (32), Velan (30) and Shantharaj (24), all from Jalahalil West, had allegedly killed T M Lokesh of Totgere, Dasanpur hobli, Bangalore North taluk, on September 17 night.

Lokesh was the driver of a private bus at Hesaraghatta which ferried employees of a garment factory from Jalahalli West to Peenya Stage II. He met the suspects at a wine store in Jalahalli West. The four men, who were daily wage workers, used to demand money from people to buy liquor. On the day of the crime, Lokesh paid the bill for their drink. The suspects then plotted to rob him. They took him in an autorickshaw near Gangamma Circle and tried to snatch cash from him.

When he protested, they attacked him with iron rods, killing him on the spot, police said. They took away his cellphone and Rs 800, and dumped the body near a Canara Bank office and fled, police said.

Theft bid at ATM kiosk

Thieves made a futile attempt to break open an ATM kiosk in Indiranagar on Thursday night. The suspects had managed to force a small door of the machine of Bank of Travancore near CMH Hospital. But they failed to lay their hands on cash, police said. Nearly Rs eight lakh had been kept in the kiosk and no security guard was deployed.

Woman robbed

Car-borne suspects snatched a gold chain worth Rs 25,000  from a woman in Maruthinagar. The incident occurred when the victim Sharada was returning home with her friend.     She was also robbed of Rs 11,500 and a cellphone.
